Today's Plan

Picture
  1. 3 minutes of affirmations
  2. 5 minute guided meditation
  3. 5 minute morning yoga (Yoga with Adriene)
  4. 5 minute morning pages

This morning routine is specifically designed to start you off slowly; waking up the mind first, bringing positive thoughts into your mental plane, and gradually incorporating more movements to wake up the body as well.

A F F I R M A T I O N S

We, as humans, have thousands of thoughts during any given day. Have you ever stopped to analyze how many of these thoughts are positive ones and how many are negative ones? Our internal self-talk can be quite negative if we don't monitor it. Add to that the fact that our minds are able to create a reality out of what we think, and you have a powerful combination that can either create a world based on your hopes and dreams, or based on your worries and fears.

Affirmations are positive statements that we think to ourselves repeatedly in order to counteract the effects of our negative thoughts and train our minds to see our realities in a more positive light. Practice this daily, and you'll start noticing definite changes within 10 consecutive days.

Repeat the following affirmations with intention.

For the next 3 minutes of your morning we will focus on seeing the day ahead in a positive light.

  1.  Set a timer to 3 minutes.
  2.  Read the first affirmation, consider if you believe it to be true or not. If you don't consider the phrase to be true try to picture what it would be like and feel like if it were true to you. For example, if the affirmation is: "I wake up feeling refreshed and rested" but you feel tired this morning, try to visualize what it would feel like if it were true. How would it feel to be rested and energized right now? FEEL IT.
  3. Take a deep breath and repeat the same affirmation in your mind 3 times, taking one deep breath before each one. Try to feel it as much as possible.
  4. Move on to the next affirmation and repeat steps 1, 2 and 3.
Isn't it an excellent day already? Now, let's move on to our 5 minute meditation...

M E D I T A T I O N

As we said before, our minds are constantly thinking - processing stimuli from our surroundings, getting lost in memories, worrying incessantly. Whatever takes up your mental space can be taxing on your mind, body and spirit. This is why it is very beneficial to quiet the mind from time to time, create some space and detach yourself from the thoughts that plague you.

The next step in our morning routine is to take 5 minutes to get our blood pumping and wake up our body. The following morning yoga sequence by Yoga with Adriene is perfect for this.

Your heart is the size of an ocean. Go find yourself in its hidden depths." ~Rumi
Last but not least, we have morning pages. Writing down your intentions for the day ahead is an excellent way to get clear on what your priorities for the day are and what your ideal day looks like. Take a piece of paper and pen, and answer the following questions:
